Shoes and Art: A Match Made in Heaven
KiptonArt Rising 2012 took things up a notch this year when it came to combining art with fashion, displaying the works of its finalists and hosting its celebratory closing reception at Scoop NYC in Soho. Works of the 13 finalists (including the 6 winners) were displayed in the 10,000 square foot downtown fashion boutique from November 10 – 16. A leading e-commerce art website, KiptonArt supports the development and exposure of selected artists through its program. A popular shopping destination for 20-something trendsetters in New York, guests could view over 30 works of art at Scoop NYC amidst racks of clothing including labels like Burberry, Helmut Lang, John Varvatos and Etro.

The labels weren’t the only recognizable names at Scoop NYC; guests of the closing reception on November 16, 2011, included Heatherette designer Richie Rich, KiptonArt founder Kipton Cronkite, and heiress to the Hearst family fortune Gillian Hearst Simonds, to name a few. Despite the presence of such social fixtures, however, this was not the type of party where to witness brazen debauchery. Considering the exclusive guest-list, the crowd was relatively sparse when spread throughout the expansive space at Scoop. Rather, friends and acquaintances mingled in small groups while sipping on cocktails and admiring the artwork, and the absence of the standard open-bar lurkers and self-promotion seekers created a more intimate and enjoyable environment for those in attendance.
The clothes and artwork complimented each other well
It’s no secret that fashion and art have been consistently evolving towards each other and the two created a beautiful balance when paired together, with each almost enhancing the features of the other. Partnering Scoop NYC with KiptonArt Rising was a successful collaboration overall, and it would be wise if continued in the future although no such details have been confirmed.
