As a veteran modeling/talent agency rep, and a former model myself, I have had the pleasure of working with many major market agency representatives.
I know that breaking into the professional modeling industry can be difficult, especially for aspiring models and parents of aspiring models that don’t know exactly what it takes or how the industry works. Many people will shoot themselves in the foot right at the start if they don’t take the proper steps necessary to enter this industry in a professional manner. Unfortunately, this industry is also littered with dishonest people just trying to make a quick buck off of your dreams. It is extremely important that aspiring models are able to distinguish between legitimate agencies and those companies that are only out to sell you websites, comp-cards, photo-shoots and “opportunities”.
As a Model Placement Agent, my first task is to evaluate talent that is interested in working in the modeling industry in New York. Not only do you need to have a stellar look that is in vogue, but you must be very driven and committed to being successful. Especially with minors, a strong support system is key. Not only that, but you must have the proper tools necessary to give the best possible first impression when approaching agencies you may want to represent you.
If I believe that you have the potential to sign with a major modeling agency in New York, we will work together to introduce you to the agencies that can help you start a successful career. There is no fee for this, but as such I will only take-on individuals whom I believe truly have what it takes to get signed, and it is my responsibility guide you through that process. Beginning with putting together your portfolio, I promote you to agencies, meet with agents who express interest in you, and negotiate your contract if you are offered to sign with an agency. My intention is for the models that I work with get the best possible arrangement, and it is my goal to make sure that models and parents have a clear understanding of how everything works.
I am compensated if you are actually signed by agency, in which case I collect a percentage of the commission earned on jobs booked for you by that agency (meaning that it is also in my best interest to get you signed). I pride myself on only taking talent with the best potential to agents so that, not only can I maintain a good relationship with the agencies, but they will ask me to continue bringing them talent.
